INTRODUCTION
On the client side in NetObjects Fusion, there are only two settings that affect the functionality of the BBS. One is Publish To; the other is Perl Path for Unix. With one exception, neither Subdirectory nor Page Title affect the BBS's ability to operate. Each property is described below.
SUBDIRECTORY PROPERTY
This is the directory where the BBS files and subdirectories are published to. The default setting is bbs. This BBS directory is created in your site's base directory, the directory to which the site is published. This site-wide base directory is specified in the Configure-Publish dialog in Publish view.
PAGE TITLE PROPERTY
What you enter for Page Title will appear in the title bar of the BBS window. Be sure not to include a single quote in this title. Doing so will disable the BBS.
PUBLISH TO PROPERTY
Publish To can be set either to Windows or Unix. This setting does not specify the type of file server that you're publishing to. It determines whether Perl5 CGI scripts (Publish to Unix) or NT CGI binaries (Publish to Windows) are uploaded to the server.
The CGI script files are standard Perl5 scripts and require that Perl5 be installed on the server. The CGI binaries are Windows NT executable files that are executed directly by the web server. The CGI binaries do not use Perl.
PERL PATH FOR UNIX PROPERTY
This setting applies only when the following two conditions are met:
- Publish To is set to Unix.
- The web server reads the first line of the script to find the Perl executable. Windows NT, for example, runs the Perl interpreter based on the association of a filename extension. When publishing to Windows NT, this setting should be ignored; it's setting will have no impact on the BBS.
