Introduction to Templates

A NetObjects Fusion template is a professionally designed site, page, or section containing generic content that you can replace with your own information. Use NetObjects Fusion templates to get a head start on designing individual pages or an entire site. For example, you might want to create a company intranet site. You could base your new site on the NetObjects Fusion Company Intranet template, which includes pages for Company, About Us, Sales, Service, What's New, Calendar, Order Form, and many more. Replace the generic information in the template's pages with your company's actual data. Apply a SiteStyle that supports your company image, and you'll have a complete site in little more time than it takes to enter the content. Many designers report that NetObjects Fusion Templates have saved them days of design effort.

You can base a new site on a NetObjects Fusion template, insert a template into an existing site, or create your own template. You can use templates to incorporate site sections developed by different site designers into a single larger site.

NetObjects Fusion includes two types of templates:

  • AutoSite templates, which are designed to represent complete sites. AutoSite templates are stored in the NetObjects Fusion 2.0\Templates\Autosites folder.
  • Page templates, which are designed to represent individual pages or sections containing several pages. Page templates are stored in the NetObjects Fusion 2.0\Templates\Pages folder.

NetObjects Fusion stores site files in one format and template files in a slightly different format:

  • NetObjects Fusion sites are stored as files with the extension .nod.
  • NetObjects Fusion templates are stored as files with the extension .nft.

Each NetObjects Fusion site or .nod file is based on a template or .nft file. For example, when you create a new blank site, the new site is based on the NetObjects Fusion template file Blank Site.nft. This file is located in the NetObjects Fusion 2.0\Templates\AutoSites folder.

A .nod file is identical to a template file except for the following:

  • When you save a site or .nod file, all assets and references to assets are hard-coded to reflect their exact machine, drive, path, and folder, and the assets remain in their original drives and folders.
  • When you export a site as a template or .nft file, all assets are referenced with relative path names, and all assets are copied to the template's \Assets folder.
