When you click on one of the two buttons at left, this text box will appear to change. (What´s really happening is that it is being “hidden” and another box is being “shown”)
This is the text box which will appear when the “Swap 1” button is clicked. If you click on the “Swap 2” button, this text will change again!
This is the text box which will be shown (and everything else will be hidden) when the “Swap 2” button is clicked. Cool, isn´t it?
NOTE: This will only work if you publish the site (or at least the page, or layout region you´re using the effect in) with the “HTML Output” set as “CSS and Layers” - “Regular Tables” and “Nested Tables” will not allow text objects to be hidden. If you need to make sure that the page you´re working on is viewable by 3.x browsers, convert the text you want to use into pictures and use the “Multiple Rollover” scheme.
Swapping text elements involves a bit of hiding and showing...
Step One: Create the Text Items
Create the text items you will be swapping in and out and name them in their respective “Actions” tabs so you can tell them apart
Position the text items so that they overlap, but don’t let one get placed inside the other - the best way to do this is to overlap them partially, Shift-click to select them both, then use the “Align” function to center them vertically and horizontally
Create an action for each text item according to the following recipe:
When -> Custom -> Hide Text Target -> (Text item) Message -> Object -> Hide
For the first Action you create, you’ll need to select Custom -> Edit to create the “Hide Text” Custom message...
Step Two: Create the Buttons and Actions
Place the buttons you wish to use on the page
Set each button to link to “Blank” in the “Smart Links” tab
For each button, create an Action according to the following recipe:
Now create another Action for each button according to the following recipe:
When -> Mouse -> Clicked Target -> (Text Item) Message -> Object -> Show
You can also use any of the other motion and transition Actions in place of “Show”...
... make sure that you create a button to show each text object in turn - including the original text object! (I intentionally left that out in the Sample to provide a negative example).
Note: All Actions described in this section have been tested with Fusion 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and MX. Actions will not currently work properly when viewed with Netscape 6.0
