Form Spacing on the Page

The fun with forms doesn’t end with just the elements themselves.  As it turns out <FORM> tags are what are known as BLOCK tags.  Block tags are tags which are interpretted by the browsers as being separate from the other elements around them.  Other block tags include the paragraph tag <P> (which is why paragraph tags leave an entire line space between blocks of text) and the list tags <UL> and <OL>.

What this means though, is that if you have forms which are located inside of tables, or which need to be against other fixed elements on the page such as images, you might be in for a little surprise of about 20-30 pixels.

NetObjects Fusion allows you to set just about any container as a form.  This includes layout regions (which are really just tables), tables, rows within tables, individual cells within tables, and text boxes.  Let’s have a look at how each of these elements behaves when marked as a form.
