.
It includes numerous articles and press releases about the Super 2.
It has minimal graphics and a simple, clean layout that focuses on just the information you want.
It contains consistent navigation links in the left column, as well as across the bottom of each page, make the site very easy to navigate.
It takes advantage of NetObjects text styles to keep text fonts and styles consistent throughout the site.
It also uses NetObjects Fusion rollover effects with the navigation buttons.
Thanks go to Darren Johnson, S2 software specialist who took over the NetObjects Fusion responsibilities from Dr. Coy Foster to bring the site up to 2000 standards using NetObjects Fusion 5.0. Darren also added many features including a “tracking page” that allows visitors to view the balloon´s location in real time during the World Record flights. Darren has recently relocated to Nashville from Dallas and is handling the site from there—pretty amazing.
About Our Winner
The Super 2 is the very first type-certified, manned super pressure (SP) gas balloon in the world. Dr. Tom Heinshiemer, who built and flew America, the first manned SP balloon in 1976, is acting as a consultant on the S2 Project. He says the previous problem with super pressure balloons has been their “zero margin for error” factor.
Catastrophic rupture of the balloon, if over-pressured, is the reason only two manned SP balloons have previously been built and flown, he says. Like a small child's balloon, when the pressure builds up, it does not leak—it pops. Modern computers, along with new fabrics and technologies, Dr. Heinshiemer adds, now allow the construction of SP gas balloons that can be flown safely.
Dr. Coy Foster, pilot for the Super 2, currently holds more world records in ballooning than anyone in history—over 49 for hot air balloons, gas balloons, and helium airships. Coy served as the Flight Surgeon on Per Lindstrand and Richard Branson's trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific hot air balloon flights. He also served as the flight surgeon on Per Lindstrand's Stratoquest flight, when Per flew a hot air balloon to the new ultimate world record of 64,997 feet.
Foster has recently proven the safety of modern SP technology balloons with his successful test flight July 7 in Texas. He broke 12 world records during the flight but did not claim them because the test flight was only, as he put it, “to learn.”
The world-record flights for distance and duration require predictable, good weather for 40 continuous hours. This includes 4 hours of inflation, 8 hours of leak testing, and 24 hours of flight time. The team will make an attempt on the flight distance and duration records as early as September. They will go after the flight altitude record later this year.
Why Our Winner Prefers NetObjects Fusion
Coy had this to say about why he chose NetObjects Fusion to build this site. and why he went online:
“The team wanted a quick way for the information to reach interested parties. Going online gave our many supporters around the world instant access to S2 Project news and real-time updates.
“About three years ago, I asked several Web gurus which product I should use to build a Web site, and their unanimous response was NetObjects Fusion. I did not want to learn HTML. I wanted more options and a more transparent operation than any of the other products on the market had.
“My first attempt at building the Super2.com site took several weeks. It has since been updated numerous times. I chose NetObjects Fusion because it is relatively easy to use without having to learn HTML. The WYSIWYG makes it simple for even a beginner to make a dazzling Web site.”
